Yes this is possible, and to do so you must check the "Transfer missing assets" box in the V-Ray Distributed Rendering Settings window. This option resolves the connection issues that occur due to the different operating systems having different pathways. Mac, Linux and Windows machines can all be used simultaneously in a render job with V-Ray, however you must be using the same version of V-Ray on any machines being used.
